Worship
Worship at First Christian is designed to deepen the relationship one has with God, with humanity, and with other parts of creation.
Worship follows the Liturgical Calendar and makes use of the Revised Common Lectionary. We strive to have a theme or thread connecting the various parts of our worship. This theme is experienced in our responsive readings, prayers, hymns, and sermons.
At First Christian, we recognize God as the recipient and audience of our worship. We also acknowledge that Scripture and its interpretation can offer words of challenge and grace. As a part of our tradition within the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), we celebrate the Lord’s Supper each week. The table is open to all. Our service each week reaches its climatic conclusion in the celebration the Lord’s Supper. Thus we are sent forth into the week with a final word of God’s love and unifying grace.
Sunday morning worship is at 11:00 am in the Sanctuary. The service is basically “traditional” in nature and incorporates several liturgical elements. Included is a children’s sermon. We provide a nursery for children in Kindergarten and younger.
Special Services of Worship
Throughout the course of the liturgical year, we offer special worship opportunities. We gather on Christmas Eve, Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, and on Easter day at sunrise to worship.
Through our partnership with Disciples on Campus, we occasionally have worship services on Wednesday evenings. While these services are specifically geared for college age participants, they are open to all. A schedule of these worship services can be found at www.ccofga.org
