Our
Ministries Educational
Ministry - Christian
Education is a vital part of the life of First Christian. We believe in
the importance of Sunday
School. Our classes are divided by age and grade for the children and
youth. Infants and toddlers are cared for in the nursery. Our Beginner
Class serves children who are four and five years old (through
Kindergarten). The Primary
class is made up of first through fifth graders. The Chi Rho class is sixth through eighth grade, and the
Christian Youth Fellowship (C.Y.F.) class serves ninth through twelfth
graders. We have five adult classes: BYKOTA (Be Ye
Kind, One to Another) is a class of older adults and is taught in a lecture format. The Joy class is comprised of older and
middle-aged adults and uses the uniform lesson series in a discussion
format. The Gleaners class is an intimate group
of older women who discuss lessons based on the uniform
series. The Friendship
class is comprised of men of different ages.
Its lessons are discussion based. The Forum
class is a group of adults whose ages range from the twenties to the
seventies. They study and discuss the lectionary Bible readings for each
Sunday of the year. Occasional
short-term classes are also offered. Music
Ministry
- Our Sanctuary Choir sings in
worship each Sunday. Practices
are on Wednesday evenings at 7:30pm.
Youth
Ministry - Our Chi Rho (6th
- 8th grades) and C.Y.F.
(9th - 12th grades) groups meet each Sunday
from 5:30 - 7:00pm for fellowship, study, and a meal. Primary Youth
Fellowship (P.Y.F.), which serves children in the Primary Sunday School
Class, meets with the other groups on the first Sunday of each month.
Our youth lead worship each year on Youth Sunday (February) and serve at
the Communion Table each Sunday as Junior Deacons. University Ministry - along with two sister congregations in the area, we participate in Disciples on Campus, a ministry to students at the University of Georgia. |
